Did you know that Andes was home to a respected educational institute?
The Andes Collegiate Institute was a short‑lived but influential 19th‑century educational academy in Andes, NY, operating from 1847 to 1880. It played a major role in the town’s early commitment to higher learning, and its legacy continued through later local educational institutions supported by the Hilton family (not the famous Hiltons).
The Institute appears in 19th‑century regional newspapers and educational records as a respected local academy, typical of the era when rural towns established “collegiate institutes” to prepare students for teaching, business, or college.

The Institute was located at the property now occupied by the Andes Central School.
